Bella's cicada shells

What a big morning counting cicada shells!  They were divided up and spread around our maths learning tables where each group made groups of ten so they could skip count easily.  Some tables had 160 cicadas, that is 16 groups of ten.  One group had 70 cicadas, that was 7 groups of ten.
Lots of skip counting in tens to 100, then in 100s to get our final total of 915 cicada shells.
The closest guess came from Keearas' whanau with Ashleigh guessing 889.  Ka pai Ashleigh!

Here are a few photos of our class in the pool.

The weather has been great for swimming.

We have most students swimming.
Our focus is kicking with long legs with and without a flutter board.
We are using the whole length of the pool to gain fitness.

Recount Writing

This week we have been working on how to write a recount. After going on our adventure the students wrote their recounts our focus is to make sure we have a title, introduction and then use time sequencing words in the recount

Our Adventure

This morning we all went to line up because we were going to the garden.
First, we walked to the garden. Next, we went to the forest and we found
some cicadas.  We picked them up and went back to class.
Finally, we went back to class and looked at the cicadas in the box.

Guess How Many ?

 Guess How Many?

Miss Stewart asked the class how many cicadas were in the tin. The students had to guess what number of cicadas there would be in the tin. Then a  group of students grouped the cicadas into groups of 5 and share this picture with the class and they all counted the groups. The answer was 105 cicadas. Miss Stewart guessed 100 so she was the closest.

Welcome to 2020

Welcome to everyone that is checking out our Blog.
We have a great class of Year 2 and 3 students. They are looking forward to learning and having lots of fun in Team Maunga Nui.

As part of our first day, we went outside to play snowballs. It was an activity for students and teachers to get to find more about the students in our class. Keep looking and making comments on our blog throughout this term and see what we are doing in Team Maunga Nui. We promise we will reply to your comments.
